Last night I took a Concious Fathering class through Swedish Medical, and now I think I may be slightly more ready to take care of Mr. Finn when he arrives later next month. It was a good class that featured like 20 other first time dads, each with our own 'baby doll', each practicing how to change a diaper, swaddle, change the baby's clothes, hold the baby, burp the baby, and so on and so forth. Pretty funny image, as most these guys were all kinda old and gruff... and taking care of a baby doll. Maybe you had to be there, i don't know.

Anway, class went over the 4 basic needs that a baby has, which is Eating, Sleeping, Pooping/Peeing (and therefore, needing to be cleaned), and Resting. And it's our jobs as Dad's to help them do this, setting a schedule and following it, and helping out the Mom, and tackling the whole parenting thing as a single unit.

I learned a lot, and it got me excited to be a Dad. The instructor was this dude who has 2 kids (2 yrs and 2 mos), so had a lot of personal experience to tie in all his teaching points. So basically, I'm not a baby expert. At least, a baby doll expert. I hear the real ones move around, make noises and let the bodily fluids fly. That's cool though. Cause I'm prepare for it.
